A North Lauderdale woman faces charges of grand theft and exploitation of the elderly after illegally withdrawing money from the bank account of an 85-year-old woman.

The woman befriended the senior citizen by driving her places. She was then able to obtain an ATM card and PIN that linked her own bank account to that of the elderly woman. She used the $6,440 she withdrew in order to pay for a car, wedding dresses and more. The elderly woman’s nephew, who had power of attorney, noticed the transactions and reported them to authorities. The woman was unable to justify taking the elder’s money.
