Three people called 911 to report a man walking along a sidewalk with a rifle in a plastic bag. According to an article in the Sun Sentinel, the gun was a Winchester model 1000 air rifle, but witnesses were unable to tell if the gun was real or fake.

The man, Jermaine McBean, was reported to be acting increasingly erratic. One caller said that he saw McBean holding the rifle, partially wrapped in a garbage bag. Another caller reported that McBean had removed the rifle from the bag and put it over his shoulder. The third caller stated that McBean started screaming loudly to himself.

Deputies arrived and McBean ignored orders to drop the weapon. Instead, he raised it toward the deputies. Minutes later, McBean was shot and fatally wounded. He later died at Broward Health Medical Center.
