A Pembroke Pines man has surrendered to police after crashing into a patrol car near a school. Toxicology reports showed that the man was under the influence of drugs when he drove his Jeep through a stop sign and crashed through the locked gate of the Pembroke Pines Charter Middle School. When officers arrived at the scene, the man drove through the parking lot toward them and struck the driver’s side of a patrol car, which trapped an officer inside.

The man then sped away and crashed through the exit gate. He lost one of the wheels of his Jeep and lost control of the vehicle, finally rolling over in some roadside bushes. When officers tried to free him from the burning wreckage, the man threw punches and struggled against them. He has since been charged with aggravated assault on a law enforcement officer, DUI, property damage and trespassing on school grounds.
