A string of rent check thefts around the county has been solved.
A 25-year-old man was arrested and accused of a series of burglaries and attempted break-ins around Oakland Park and North Lauderdale. He was caught on surveillance cameras trying to steal rent check from the mail slot in the management office of the Courts at Oakland Park apartments. He is seen smashing a window on the front door and attempting to fish out the checks and money orders that had been deposited in the management’s drop box.
He failed to steal any checks at the break in but detectives believe he had been successful in committing the same crime at other offices around the county. He confessed to the crimes and faces charges of burglary, criminal mischief and grand theft.
