An elderly Boynton Beach man is accused of holding a bank manager hostage at knifepoint during an attempted bank robbery.
The 77-year-old man was allegedly upset and asking why he could not get money from his account. He was taken to the branch manager’s office and informed that a consistent lack of funds caused his account to be closed. The man then pulled out a pocket knife and demanded that a teller give him money. He was given the $130 he wanted, and kept the knife on the manager saying that he would be his hostage.
After the man took the manager outside, the manager was able to escape. He was ordered to drop the knife, but instead demanded that the officer shoot him and threatened to stab him if he didn’t. An officer Tasered the suspect and took him into custody. He now faces charges of armed robbery and kidnapping.
