On Monday morning, a woman called 911 to inform police that she planned to kill anyone outside her home in the Rock Creek Development. After brandishing a small handgun, the woman was killed by deputies. Investigators later learned that the woman, 44-year-old Lisa Taylor, was armed with a BB gun. Officers described the incident as a possible “suicide by cop.”
Taylor had previously been hospitalized under Florida’s Baker Act. The number of shots fired by the deputies has not been released and the officers involved have been placed on administrative assignment.
This is the fourth fatal shooting this year involving Broward deputies. According to an article in the Sun Sentinel, Broward Sheriff Scott Isreal stated that in three of the shootings, deputies had weapons pointed at them. The fourth was an undercover sting operation.
