A 22-year-old man with a Broward sheriff’s badge claimed to be an undercover police officer in order to get a discount on a firearm at a gun shop.

According to an article in the Sun Sentinel, the shop owner became suspicious, and real police were called in and arrested the man.

The store owner initially found the man’s claim of being a law enforcement officer credible due to his plain gray Charger equipped with the type of spotlights police use. However, when the man wanted to trade a firearm, along with several high-capacity magazines, handcuffs, holsters, loose ammunition and sunglasses, the owner became suspicious and called police.

The man is charged with impersonating a law enforcement officer and attaching a registration that was not assigned to a license plate.
